The reasoning for getting the license was to protect myself in case MAXON audited users on forms, video sites, etc where they could easily find me and find out my real name (that would not of been good.). I used it for about four years and by then I was making enough from freelancing to get myself a studio license (started when I was 17 and I'm 24 now). That kind of mindset not only helps their profits as a company, but creates an ever increasing licensed user base year by year. I would assume that they allow this so that once some of these people that pirate their software get better and better, they may end up in a studio with a copy or freelancing with a licensed version. Personally I think that they do this on purpose (or at least never bothered to use a far more effective means of security), this is my reasoning. They also know that a very large percentage of their user base are teens on the internet looking to trying something different. Maxon knows full well that their program is by far one of the easiest to 'crack' out there (literally all you have to do is enter a serial # provided by the torrent uploader).
